Culver City : Recycling Official Named
Teri Chalmers, a former manager for financial firms, has been named the city’s new recycling coordinator.
Chalmers will be overseeing efforts to reduce the city’s waste destined for landfills by 25% by 1995 and 50% by 2000. All cities and counties must come up with a plan by July 1 to meet these goals, under a state law.
A citizens task force and Chalmers are reviewing options for composting, curbside bins, industrial collections and other recycling plans and will make recommendations to the City Council.
Chalmers, 38, formerly did promotional services and public relations for a Los Angeles financial information company. Before that, she was a floor manager for a brokerage firm at the Pacific Stock Exchange in San Francisco. She said she has a personal interest in recycling.
She replaces the city’s first recycling official, Jane Hinshaw, who resigned in November for personal reasons.
