Hit-Run Crash Kills Bicyclist in Vista
A bicyclist struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding in Vista died Thursday of massive head injuries, authorities said.
Russell Spencer, 43, of Vista, was pronounced dead Thursday morning at Palomar Hospital, where he was flown by helicopter after the Wednesday night crash, county Medical Examiner investigator Chuck Bolton said.
Spencer was riding a 10-speed bicycle south on North Melrose Drive, just north of the intersection of Olive Avenue, about 5:40 p.m. when a full-size, white pickup truck rear-ended him.
