ROUNDUP : Sunny Hills Rolls Past Fullerton inGirls’ Soccer

The Sunny Hills High School girls’ soccer team scored four goals in the second half Thursday and defeated Fullerton, 5-0, at Sunny Hills to take sole possession of first place in the Freeway League.

Kelly Ward and Stacy Thurber each scored two goals and Rhonda Partida scored one for Sunny Hills (14-0-1, 4-0 in league), which is ranked fourth in Division 3-A.

Shannan Brown, a first-team all-division goalkeeper as a junior last season, had two saves. Brown, who now has 11 shutouts this season, has allowed only five goals in 15 games.

Mary Oregal had 12 saves for Fullerton (7-3-1, 3-1).

In Angelus League girls’ soccer:

Santa Margarita 1, Rosary 0--Allie Werve scored 15 minutes into the second half for Santa Margarita (4-11-1, 1-3) at Chapman Park. Helen Baron had 12 saves for Rosary (9-4-4, 2-2-1) and Char Naughton had four saves for Santa Margarita.

Mater Dei 3, St. Joseph 0--Susan Steiner, Katie Ward and Diana Awadallah each scored for visiting Mater Dei (15-3-2, 5-0).

In the Century League:

Foothill 4, Canyon 0--Foothill ended Canyon’s 25-game league winning streak. Denise Maram had two goals and Kathy Shortall and Julie Borden each had one for Foothill (8-6-3, 3-0-1). Tina Thompson had 12 saves for Canyon (11-3-3, 3-1). Julie Ehret had nine saves in her sixth shutout in a row.

Villa Park 0, El Modena 0--Amy Lewis had five saves for Villa Park (3-6-5, 1-1-2). Amy Moreno had two saves for El Modena (5-6-3, 1-1-2).

Orange 3, Santa Ana Valley 1--Laura Roundy scored twice and Mary Pezzetti scored once for visiting Orange. Sandra Selgado scored and Ana Mejia had 16 saves for Santa Ana Valley, which led, 1-0, at halftime. Rebecca Comstock had two saves for Orange (3-6-2, 1-2-1).

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 1, El Dorado 1--Jenni Coughlin scored with two minutes remaining to give host Esperanza (10-1-3, 3-0-2) the tie. Brianna Yoshina scored early in the second half for El Dorado (12-2-5, 2-1-2).

Los Alamitos 3, Cypress 0--Julie Harris had two goals and Jenny Reyes had a goal and an assist for Los Alamitos (13-3-2, 3-0-1). Kathy Skoglund had three saves in her 12th shutout of the season.

In Olympic League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 2, Whittier Christian 0--Megan Mahlstadt scored both goals for visiting Capistrano Valley Christian (6-2-2, 3-1-2). Chris Mouseau had nine saves for Whittier Christian.

Valley Christian 5, Orange Lutheran 3--Amber Parkinson scored two goals and Kristina Riedmann scored one for Orange Lutheran (5-4-1, 3-2-1). Amy DuPont had 15 saves for Orange Lutheran.

In Orange League:

Anaheim 2, Savanna 0--Letitia Challenger scored two goals for host Anaheim (6-3-3, 3-0-1). Kelly Wooliever had 15 saves in her fourth consecutive shutout.

Valencia 3, Brea-Olinda 0--Kristina Yoseloff, Jennifer Heffner and Amber Dickey each scored for host Valencia (7-10, 3-1). Janine Kido had an assist for Valencia. Donelle Scott had eight saves for Valencia and Heather Colven had 11 saves for Brea-Olinda (1-1-2).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 1, Trabuco Hills 1--Jackie Connelly scored in the first half for host Estancia (10-2-3, 3-0-1). Chrissy Lunceford scored in the second half for Trabuco Hills (10-3-3, 3-0-1).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 3, University 1--Lisa Boatman, Stephanie Hughes and Tracy Schriber each scored for visiting Corona del Mar (8-4-2, 4-0). Jenny Whitely scored for University (5-5-6, 1-1-2).

In the South Coast League:

El Toro 2, San Clemente 0--Kim Henry and Shawn Viloria each scored for host El Toro (19-0-2, 2-0-2). Amy Gregory had 21 saves for San Clemente.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 4, Fountain Valley 1--Stacy Matsurra, Erin Bailey, Michelle Turner and Lynne Thiel each scored for visiting Edison (10-2-6, 3-0-1). Jocalyn Greenly scored for Fountain Valley (2-2).

Marina 1, Huntington Beach 0--Amy Peterson scored with two minutes left for host Marina (12-1-2, 3-0-1).

In Angelus League wrestling:

St. John Bosco 36, Mater Dei 20--In the 130-pound division, Joe Canzone pinned his opponent in 29 seconds for host St. John Bosco (1-1).

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 36, Bolsa Grande 34--Angelo Sablan pinned Adam Gilbert in 22 seconds in the 171-pound division for visiting Garden Grove (4-0). At 125 pounds, Steve Lim pinned Josh Broadwater in 2 minutes 27 seconds for Bolsa Grande (1-3).

In the Orange League:

Savanna 72, Brea Olinda 3--Vince Surra pinned his opponent in 1:47 in the 119-pound division, Tim Harrington pinned his opponent in 52 seconds in the 103-pound division and Willie Green pinned his opponent in 1:54 in the heavyweight division for Savanna (12-0, 3-0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 48, Estancia 24--Jason Oliver (130 pounds) pinned Chun Pi in 3:59 and Jeff Whitten (140) pinned Jorge Rubio at 3:14 for host Trabuco Hills (10-3, 1-1).
