Lompoc Star Kaufman Makes Oral Commitment to Washington

Lompoc High running back Napolean Kaufman, one of the top prep football recruits in Southern California, made an unwritten commitment to the University of Washington on Tuesday.

Kaufman chose Washington over USC and Arizona. He said he plans to sign a letter of intent with the Huskies on Feb. 6, the national signing day.

Kaufman, 5 feet 8 and 170 pounds, rushed for 1,960 yards and 34 touchdowns last season in leading Lompoc to the Southern Section Division VII title. He also is the defending state track champion in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Dorsey running back Lamont Warren, another top prospect, committed to Colorado, turning down USC, Notre Dame and Washington.

Warren, 6-1 and 185, split time at running back and quarterback last season. He rushed for 639 yards in five games, then played quarterback the rest of the season when the team’s starter was injured. Dorsey lost to Banning in the City 4-A Division semifinals.
