OXNARD : District to Increase School Lunch Prices

Share

Lunches sold by the Oxnard School District will cost 20% more beginning Feb. 1, with prices going from $1.25 to $1.50.

The Oxnard school board approved the increase Wednesday, in part because of a severe cutback in the amount of surplus commodities from the federal government, said Ardyce M. Driskill, assistant superintendent for business and fiscal services.

“I don’t know why there is a cutback,” Driskill said. “But it is important to note that we are one district that has tried to keep the lunch prices low for a long time. Many other districts have charged $1.50 to $1.75 for some time.”

Driskill estimated that the last increase in lunch prices by the district was three years ago.

The increase affects students who pay full price for lunch. Reduced-price and free lunches have not been affected.

Prices for adult lunches were raised from $1.75 to $2.15. The adult lunch rate includes sales tax, which is not included in student lunches. Milk prices for students increased from 20 cents to 25 cents. For adults, the increase is from 30 cents to 40 cents.
