Keith Weller, a one-time assistant coach with the Sockers, will be working with Sockers Coach Ron Newman once again at the Major Soccer League All-Star game slated Feb. 13 in Kansas City.

The league announced Thursday that Weller, now head coach at Tacoma, will serve as assistant coach for the West.

Assisting the East’s Kenny Cooper of the Baltimore Blast will be Dave Clements of Kansas City.

Newman and Cooper received head coaching honors by virtue of leading their teams to the 1990 championship series. It will be Newman’s seventh All-Star assignment and Cooper’s eighth.

“The selection of Keith was not a difficult one,” Newman said. “We’ve worked together before. He should be rewarded for his work during this, his first full season as a head coach.”

All-Star rosters will be announced early next week.
