HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Crescenta Valley Girls 16-0 in Soccer

Share

The Crescenta Valley High girls’ soccer team posted an 8-0 victory over host Maranatha on Friday to improve to 16-0, but the Falcons are no cinch to make the playoffs in any of the four divisions.

The Falcons are playing in their inaugural season and Coach Judd Bogust said his team may lose points in their battle for a playoff berth because of it.

Bogust said he has heard from the Southern Section office that some teams “that didn’t make it last year are going to make it this year.” He said that because his is a first-year team, it might have to swallow a bitter pill and wait until next year.

As a free-lance team, the Falcons have to be added to one of the playoff brackets as a third-place team.

“The (Southern Section) has not been very optimistic about us making the playoffs,” Bogust said. “They told us they were just going to look at our record and look at the scores of the games.”

Junior forward Nancy Allen, the Falcons’ scoring leader with 20 goals, scored four as Crescenta Valley, with its eight goals, equaled Maranatha’s scoring total for the season.

Crescenta Valley outshot Maranatha, 42-3, and goalkeeper Kimberlee Carroll recorded the Falcons’ 10th shutout.
