Adam Keefe scored 29 points and shut down Oregon State’s Teo Alibegovic Saturday to lead Stanford past the Beavers, 64-59, at Palo Alto.

Stanford (12-8 overall, 5-5 in the Pac-10) built an 18-point lead with eight minutes left before having to hold on in the final minutes.

Oregon State (11-8, 5-4) entered the weekend tied with Arizona for the conference lead, but lost to California and Stanford on its trip to the Bay Area.

The Cardinal had a 53-35 lead with eight minutes left, but the Beavers went on a 21-8 surge to make it 61-56 with 1:17 left on a free throw by Chad Scott.

Stanford was scoreless for nearly nearly four minutes before Keefe grabbed an offensive rebound and scored with 32 seconds left.

The Cardinal, which made only 10 of 23 free throws, helped the Beavers get back into the game by missing several times from the line in the final minutes.

Alibegovic, averaging 22.7 points a game before being held to 11 by Keefe, made a three-point shot at the buzzer.

Stanford took a 33-23 halftime lead as Keefe scored 16 of his points.

The Beavers had a 12-9 lead before the Cardinal used a 14-2 scoring streak to break out to a 23-14 lead.

Scott scored 15 points for Oregon State, Mario Jackson added 14 and Kevin Harris had 11.

No. 6 Arizona 85, Washington 56--The Wildcats smothered the Huskies at Tempe, Ariz.

By avenging an earlier loss to Washington (12-7, 3-6), Arizona (18-3, 7-2) stretched its Pac-10 lead to two games.

The Wildcats used a pressing, man-to-man defense to break the game open midway through the first half. Arizona led, 40-23, at halftime and made it 65-32 on a layup by Sean Rooks with 11:43 remaining.

The score was tied, 16-16, with 8:40 left in the first half when Arizona forced three successive turnovers to fuel a 19-4 run over the next seven minutes.

Doug Meekins scored 17 points for Washington.

Washington State 74, Arizona State 72--Terrence Lewis scored 20 points and the Cougars withstood a late rally to beat the Sun Devils at Tempe, Ariz.

Arizona State (13-6, 4-5) trailed, 70-59, with 6:40 left but made it close by holding Washington State (13-6, 5-4) scoreless over the final 3:31.

The Sun Devils had chances to tie the score, but Lynn Collins missed a short jumper with four seconds left and Jamal Faulkner, who scored 19 points, missed on a follow shot as time ran out.
