Two fires within five hours of each other broke out at a motel late Thursday and early Friday, forcing several guests from their rooms but causing no injuries, fire officials said.

The fires occurred at the Caravan Inn motel at 130 W. Katella Ave., close to Disneyland, Battalion Chief Kent Mastain said.

The first blaze broke out in a first-floor utility room shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Mastain said. More than a dozen firefighters from Anaheim, Garden Grove and Orange responded and put out the fire in 10 minutes.

Guests in three adjacent rooms had to be evacuated because of heavy smoke, Mastain said. Damage was estimated at $20,000.

The second call went out at 4:38 a.m. Friday. Firefighters from Anaheim and Garden Grove took 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which broke out in a second-floor utility room directly above the original one, fire official Diane Boyles said.

Smoke again forced guests out of adjacent rooms, Boyles said. Damage was estimated at $10,000.

The two fires were regarded as being of suspicious origin, said Boyles, who added that an arson investigation is under way.
