‘Trouble’ At Last

Will “Nothing but Trouble” prove to be a prophetic title?
Warner Bros.’ $30-million-plus comedy--originally known as “Valkenvania” and marking Dan Aykroyd’s directing debut--was originally scheduled for Thanksgiving release. Then came a Christmastime release . . . which was pushed back to 1991. Meanwhile, the original ending was scrapped--following test screenings--and a new one was shot.
Chevy Chase, Demi Moore, John Candy and Aykroyd--who also wrote the script--star in the film about yuppie travelers who wind up in a weird backwoods town, where they face the death penalty for a traffic violation.
The movie will finally open on Friday--but don’t look for opening-day reviews.
“No, we are not going to have screenings for critics,” admits a studio spokeswoman.
Promised an explanation, we hadn’t gotten one by press time.
