Bob Charles, had the lead, but wasn’t all that happy about it.

Charles shot an even-par 72 Saturday to move into a one-stroke lead going into the final round of the Suncoast Senior tournament at Tampa, Fla.

“I was disappointed with the results because I felt I played a lot better than that,” said Charles, who is at 140.

A left-hander from New Zealand, he started the day tied for the lead with Frank Beard and Bob Brue at four under after shooting a 68 Friday. Brue had a 75 to finish at 143. Beard had two double bogeys and shot 79, finishing at 147.

Lee Trevino shot a 71, one of only three rounds under par, and is second at 141. Bobby Nichols is third at 142 after shooting a 73.

Beth Daniel shot a 73 and her lead dwindled from five strokes after six holes to one heading into the final round of the LPGA Phar-Mor tournament at Lauderhill, Fla.

Daniel, making her first start of 1991 after a nagging shoulder injury, is at 140, four under par.

Hiromi Kobayashi also had a 73, with four bogeys on her first 10 holes, and is second at 141.

Daniel birdied three of her first six holes and led her closest pursuer, Colleen Walker, by five strokes. Then Daniel missed a four-foot par putt on the ninth hole and made a double bogey on the 10th.

Four players are tied for third at 142, including Nancy Lopez.
