Marco Lokar, an Italian playing basketball at Seton Hall, is considering leaving the team because of harassment resulting from his decision not to wear an American flag on his uniform.

Lokar was the only Seton Hall player who last month declined to put a flag on his uniform as a show of support for American troops in the Persian Gulf.

On Feb. 2, the sophomore was booed by the crowd at Madison Square Garden every time he touched the ball in the Pirates’ game against St. John’s. He hasn’t played since.

He traveled with the team to Pittsburgh on Feb. 4 but was not used by Coach P. J. Carlesimo. Lokar did not travel with the team for last Saturday’s game at Oklahoma. And he hasn’t practiced since last week.

“I know what I will do, but I haven’t told anyone,” Lokar was quoted as saying in today’s editions of The National. “I will make a public statement and then you will know.”

On Jan. 30, Lokar, an Italian citizen, responded to questions about why his uniform did not have a flag.

“I have my personal reasons not to, and that’s it,” Lokar said.
