Michael Jordan cut down on his mistakes Tuesday night and the Chicago Bulls extended their home winning streak to 14 games.

After making 10 turnovers in an uncharacteristic performance in the All-Star game, Jordan had only three in a 122-113 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

Jordan had 32 points, four rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks to help the Bulls retain first place in the Central Division.

In improving its home record to 19-3, Chicago had to overcome 37 points by Dominique Wilkins and a career-high 30 for Spud Webb.

The Hawks, trailing by 11 points in the last quarter, rallied to cut the lead to 107-105. But Bill Cartwright, Horace Grant and B.J. Armstrong countered with consecutive baskets. Grant was 10 for 13 from the field and had 23 points.

“Horace Grant was awesome,” Bull Coach Phil Jackson said. “We did the job defensively--finally.”

San Antonio 102, Washington 92--David Robinson, in his second game as a starting forward for the Spurs, had 20 points and 10 rebounds at San Antonio.

New center Dwayne Schintzius had 13 points and six rebounds, and the Spurs maintained their two-game lead in the Midwest Division.

John Williams, the former Crenshaw High and Louisiana State star, played his first game for the Bullets since injuring his knee 14 months ago. He played 14 minutes, was one for six and reported no ill effects.

“It felt good to play,” he said. “But I’m still carrying too much weight and don’t have my legs under me.”

The Spurs held Bernard King to 22 points.

Utah 113, Houston 92--John Stockton missed an unusual triple-double by one steal at Salt Lake City, but the Jazz easily ended the Rockets’ four-game winning streak.

In addition to nine steals, Stockton had 19 points and 11 assists. Karl Malone had 26 points.

Thurl Bailey had seven of his 18 points in a 21-6 flurry to open the final quarter and turn the game into a rout.

Orlando 129, Denver 122--Several teams would like to land hot Scott Skiles before the trading deadline next week. But the quick playmaker is sparking the Magic to winning basketball.

Skiles scored 12 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter at Orlando and had nine assists as the Magic won its fourth in a row for the first time. The Magic trailed, 92-87, after three quarters.

Skiles has averaged 29 points in the four-game winning streak.

Cleveland 94, Miami 78--Brad Daugherty had 25 points and 15 rebounds and the Cavaliers overcame a sloppy first half to win at Miami.

Despite 19 turnovers in the first 24 minutes, the Cavaliers led by two points at intermission and pulled away steadily in the second half.

Charlotte 100, Dallas 92--Johnny Newman scored 21 points at Charlotte and the Hornets opened the second half with an 11-2 spurt that brought them from behind.

Mike Gminski had 18 points and 14 rebounds, and the Hornets ended a four-game losing streak.

New York 114, Indiana 110--The Knicks are not having a good season, but they seem to play better on the road than they do at home.

Patrick Ewing scored 29 points at Indianapolis and Kiki Vandeweghe made four free throws to win it in the last 20 seconds. The Knicks, 11-13 on the road, are 10-14 at home.

Boston 114, Seattle 111--It didn’t look promising for the Celtics when they opened their five-game western swing by falling behind early at Seattle.

The Celtics were 13 points behind in the second quarter and 11 back at halftime.

But Reggie Lewis took charge in the second half, scoring 24 of his 30 points. His 10-footer with 3:32 left put the Celtics ahead to stay, 103-101.

Larry Bird, who had 18 points, made two free throws to make it 114-111 with 11 seconds left. Gary Payton missed a three-point shot for Seattle with four seconds left and the Celtics had their fourth victory in a row.

Eddie Johnson came off the bench to score 29 points for the SuperSonics. Seattle had a scare when Shawn Kemp injured his arm. When X-rays proved negative, he returned and played in the fourth quarter.

Golden State 126, Minnesota 105--Chris Mullin scored 30 points and Tim Hardaway had 29 at Oakland as the Warriors jumped in front early and coasted to victory.

Portland 121, Philadelphia 106--Terry Porter, Buck Williams and Clyde Drexler keyed a 31-9 third-quarter surge at Portland as the Trail Blazers got their 40th victory of the season.
