Earnhardt Wins Grand National; Davey Allison Finishes Third
Dale Earnhardt and Davey Allison used the Goody’s 300 for Grand National cars as a dress rehearsal Saturday for today’s Daytona 500. Earnhardt won the rehearsal.
Earnhardt led 90 of the 120 laps to collect $38,532 for his fourth Goody’s win. He drove a V-6 Chevy Lumina prepared in his own shop in Kannapolis, N.C. Allison led 16 of the other 30 laps in a Ford but was beaten to the tape for second by Michael Waltrip, in a Pontiac.
“Dale can have this one today, but I’ll get after him tomorrow,” Allison said.
Ken Schrader finished fourth in a Chevrolet as Winston Cup drivers dominated the feature event of NASCAR’s secondary stock car series.
A pair of multi-car accidents, in which no one was injured, knocked 20 cars out of the race in the first 18 laps.
Another crash, on lap 32, knocked Todd Bodine and Jack Sprague out of action and damaged several other cars. Bodine had to have several stitches to close a cut on his chin.
