DIVISION I-A BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS
Los Alamitos 84, Hart 66--Los Alamitos (20-7) was led by point guard Bryan Hakala, who scored a game-high 23 points, including four three-point baskets. Hakala scored 17 points in the second period during a 27-12 Griffin run.
The Griffins, the Empire League champions, led, 18-12, after one quarter, but Hakala and Jason Cunningham combined for 22 points to widen the lead to 45-24 at halftime. Cunningham finished with 22 points and seven rebounds. Geoff Graham and Steve Carbone each scored 14 and Graham added a game-high 13 rebounds. Keith Bolden, the Griffins’ other starter, finished with nine points.
Hart, (19-7) the Foothill League champion, was led by Marty Downen with 18 and Keith Halcovich with 16. The Indians, who trailed by as many as 23 points, cut the lead to, 69-54 with 4:15 to play, but Los Alamitos responded with two baskets by Cunningham and two free throws by Hakala to stem the rally.
