WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STATE JC CHAMPIONSHIPS

In other first-round playoff games:

Ventura 70, Chaffey 56--Lonnette Hall scored 22 points and Nicole Ellis had 16 rebounds for host Ventura (21-10) in the first round of the Southern California regional playoffs.

Kerry Waggoner had 16 points and seven rebounds, Ellis added 11 points, and Marli Mactal scored 10 points for Ventura. Ventura will travel to Golden West (31-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Moorpark 90, Mesa 69--Six players scored in double figures as Moorpark rolled to an easy win. The Lady Raiders will play host to a second-round game Saturday against the winner of the Cuesta-Riverside game.

Moorpark’s scoring party included Kerrie Marshall (19 points), Dawna Houck (14 points), Angie Long (13 points, 11 rebounds), Jeny Shotliff (12 points), Amy Chandler (12 points, 18 assists) and Lisa Huffaker (10 points).

Moorpark (29-4) made 23 of 29 first-half shots in taking a 54-27 lead at intermission.

Pierce 61, Fullerton 57--Pierce scored the final four points to upset host Fullerton (23-7).

With the score tied, 57-57, Melanie Sapon hit a five-foot jump shot with 1:15 left. After Fullerton’s Keri Erkenbrack missed a three-point shot with 10 seconds left, Pierce’s Nikki Davis hit both ends of a one-and-one.

Pierce (21-9) was led by Lisa Little’s 32 points. Little made 15 of 20 shots from the field.
