Why Is Silence Golden in Golf and Tennis?
Oh, someone moved . . . there was a shadow . . . a camera clicked . . . that whisper was too close . . . I can’t drive . . . I can’t putt. . . . I can’t serve the ball. My concentration has been broken.
Two free throws must be made to send the game into overtime, 15,485 fans are screaming their heads off . . . handkerchiefs, towels and programs are waving.
A field goal will win the game, but 68,209 fans are pouring out their lungs.
What is the difference? Why can’t golf and tennis players get accustomed to noise and movement?
I, for one, am tired of their antics.
