SENIOR GOLF : Coody’s 63 Sparks U.S. Victory

From Associated Press

Led by Charles Coody’s course-record 63, the United States won five of eight matches Sunday to beat the International team for the fourth consecutive year in the senior tour’s Chrysler Cup.

The United States, which had a five-point lead after the first two rounds, scored a 58 1/2-41 1/2 victory. Each match in the final round was worth six points.

The Americans won $50,000 apiece. The Internationals, who have won the cup only once since the tournament began six years ago, each received $25,000.

Coody made seven birdies and an eagle with a 12-foot putt at the par-five sixth hole. He made two birdie putts of 30 feet and two of 25 feet.
