Condor at Zoo Lays Second Egg of the Year

Share

A California condor at the Los Angeles Zoo laid Tuesday its second egg of 1991, bringing to six the number of eggs produced so far this year at the facility.

If enough young hatch during the year, California condors will probably be released into their historical range late this year. The latest egg--produced by Anyapa and Kaweah--was discovered at 7:15 a.m. and was “pulled” by condor keepers 15 minutes later.

In the wild, condors would rear a single chick every other year. Pulling the egg stimulates the birds to produce another one within 30 days.
