NHL ROUNDUP : Hull in High-Rent District With 70 Goals Again
Brett Hull scored his 70th goal of the season and had three assists as the St. Louis Blues tied the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-4, Saturday night at Philadelphia.
Hull joined Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux as the only players in NHL history to record back-to-back 70-goal seasons. Hull has scored against every team this season except the Hartford Whalers.
Calgary 5, Minnesota 1--Theoren Fleury scored twice and Joe Nieuwendyk had a goal and two assists as the Flames clinched a playoff berth.
Montreal 3, Edmonton 1--Rookie goalie Andre Racicot made 27 saves and the Canadiens held off the Oilers at Edmonton.
Petr Klima scored 1:25 into the third period to pull Edmonton within a goal at 2-1. But Mike McPhee scored 37 seconds later to secure the victory.
Buffalo 7, Boston 4--The Sabres clinched a playoff berth with a victory at Boston.
Mikko Makela and rookie Darrin Shannon sealed the victory with goals 11 seconds apart in the third period.
New York Rangers 5, Toronto 2--Brian Mullen assisted on two third-period goals by John Ogrodnick and scored another as the Rangers won at Toronto.
Mike Gartner and Darren Turcotte also scored for the Rangers.
Washington 3, New York Islanders 2--Michal Pivonka scored with 5:58 left in the third period as the Capitals won at home.
John Kordic was suspended indefinitely for failing to show for the Capitals’ pregame meeting due to a recurring alcohol problem, the team said.
Quebec 3, Hartford 3--Kip Miller’s second goal of the game, with 26 seconds to play in the third period, gave the Nordiques a tie at Quebec.
