HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL STATE REGIONAL GIRLS’ PLAYOFFS
Morningside 51, Chino 44--Behind 12 points from Tyesha Whiting and 10 apiece from center Janet Davis and guard Tina Thompson, the Monarchs beat visiting Chino in a Division I game at Morningside.
The Monarchs (31-2) advance to Saturday afternoon’s Southern Regional championship game, where they will play Clovis West (27-2).
Brea-Olinda 61, Carlsbad 47--After trailing for most of the first quarter, the Lady Cats bounced back to win a Division II game at Brea.
With the victory, Brea (31-1) moved a step closer to its third consecutive appearance in the State tournament. The Lady Cats play Ventura for the Southern Regional final at 12:30 p.m. Saturday the Sports Arena.
Junior forward Jody Anton led Brea with 18 points and nine rebounds. Freshman guard Nicole Erickson added 14.
Morro Bay 54, San Diego Lincoln 43--Sara Pierce scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Pirates to a Division IV victory at Morro Bay.
Morro Bay (26-3) will play Los Padres League rival Santa Maria St. Joseph for the Southern Regional title at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
