Poly High put on a power-hitting exhibition Thursday, pounding out 10 extra-base hits en route to a 14-1 baseball victory over host North Hollywood in an East Valley League opener.

The Parrots (4-1, 1-0 in league play) had 12 hits altogether. Marlon McKinney (two for three, four runs batted in), Francisco Flores, Robert Aros and Jonathan Campbell all belted home runs, accounting for eight Parrot runs.

Junior right-hander Eric Diaz (2-0) kept North Hollywood (0-1, 0-1) quiet at the plate, throwing a two-hitter through five innings. Diaz allowed a single in the second and third innings and an unearned run in the third. Teammate Robert Barron allowed one hit and struck out four batters in two innings of relief.

North Hollywood starter Pedro Campana cruised through the first two innings, but the Parrots jumped all over him for seven runs in the third and five more in the fifth.

McKinney’s home run to left field drove in the Parrot’s first three runs. Rodrigo Dorame then drew a walk, and Raul Torres followed with a double. Jesus Perez then drove in Dorame and Torres with a double to right-center.

After Campana got Steve Chavez to pop up to first baseman Mike Lewis, Flores (two for three, three RBIs) drove a 1-1 pitch deep to center. As Flores was rounding second base, the ball rolled underneath the adjacent football bleachers, and Flores was awarded a home run.

The Huskies scored their lone run in the third. Designated-hitter Delbar Aguilar singled to right, then scored on consecutive fielding errors. Octavio Aguirre hit a line drive at first baseman Flores, but the ball skipped off Flores’ glove into right field. When the ball got by right fielder Perez, Aguilar came home.

Poly led, 8-1, after four innings, but the Parrots weren’t quite ready to call it a day. Flores and Adulfo Rocha ripped back-to-back doubles, each picking up an RBI. Campana struck out Campbell on an off-speed pitch for the Huskies’ second out, but Aros’ two-run blast over the fence in right-center chased Campana.
