SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : Batter Up! Dodgers, Mets Play 2

The return of baseball, along with a number of college basketball games and the NCAA Tournament pairings highlight the weekend sports television viewing choices.

Viewers receiving cable’s WWOR can see the Dodgers take on the New York Mets twice this weekend. WWOR airs today’s game at 10 a.m. with KTTV Channel 11 carrying Sunday’s game at 10:30 a.m. Cable’s WGN has a Chicago Cubs-Milwaukee Brewers game at noon today.

College Basketball: Sunday’s announcement of the NCAA tournament bids will be delayed because of the 3 p.m. UCLA-Washington telecast, which will be aired on KCBS Channel 2. The station is holding back the pairings announcement 90 minutes to 5 p.m. KFMB Channel 8 in San Diego will air the pairings live at 3:30 p.m.

Conference tournaments dominate the on-court action. Today’s telecasts include the Big East semifinals (9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., Channels 2 and 8); the Atlantic Coast Conference semifinals (10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. ESPN) and the Big West semifinals (7 p.m. SportsChannel, 9:30 p.m. ESPN). In a Pacific 10 game, USC hopes to bolster its chances for its first NCAA tournament bid since 1985 when it plays host to Washington State at 3 p.m. on Channel 2.

Sunday’s telecasts include the Big East championship (9:15 a.m., Channels 2 and 8), Big Eight championship (11 a.m., Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42) and the Big West championship (12:30 p.m., ESPN).

Other Sports: The Lakers, now closer to third place than first in the Pacific Division, visit the Washington Bullets today (4:30 p.m., Channels 9, 51 and 63) and the Orlando Magic Sunday (4:30 p.m., Channels 9, 51 and 63). The Kings play the Quebec Nordiques, the team with the worst record in the NHL, at 4:30 p.m. today on Prime Ticket. Sunday, the Kings meet the Montreal Canadiens, 4 p.m. on Prime Ticket. A delayed telecast of the Santa Anita Handicap airs on “Wide World of Sports” at 4:30 p.m. today on Channels 7, 3 and 42, 3:30 p.m. on Channel 10.
