From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A Walnut Grove man, apparently distraught over the breakup of his marriage, was arrested after he went on a rampage that left two women dead and a third critically wounded, police said. William James Ramos Jr., 39, was arrested in Rio Vista after allegedly shooting to death his sister-in-law and an acquaintance. A third woman, Ramos’ stepdaughter, was in critical condition on life-support systems at Mt. Diablo Hospital in Concord. The violence apparently began Thursday evening when neighbors of Ramos’ stepdaughter, Tonya Realene Karr, 25, heard gunshots from her apartment. Later that night, Karr’s aunt and Ramos’ sister-in-law, Minnie Mae Combs, 49, of Oakley, were found dead in her car at a shopping center. Police found a third victim at 3:45 a.m. Friday. That woman’s body was discovered in the camper shell of a pickup truck believed to be Ramos’, police said.
