Woman Held Hostage Is Shot, Wounded
A woman was shot and critically wounded while being held hostage in Logan Heights on Friday, police said.
Teresa Blass, 32, was in critical condition at Mercy Hospital after undergoing surgery for a bullet wound to the head, hospital spokesman Michael Scahill said.
Police responded about 2:30 p.m. to a phone call for help in the 3000 block of Birch Street and found a man holding Blass at gunpoint, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Gibbs said.
The man shot Blass during initial negotiations, Gibbs said. He was later taken into custody. The SWAT team was notified, but the situation ended before it could be deployed.
The man’s name and further details of the shooting were not available, Gibbs said.
