HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Pearlman’s Homers Boost Chatsworth

Adam Pearlman capped a brilliant week Saturday by hitting two home runs and driving in seven runs in host Chatsworth High’s 10-2 victory over Bell-Jeff in a Westside tournament game.

Pearlman hit a two-run home run in the second and added a grand slam in the fifth to give the Chancellors (3-1) a 9-0 lead.

Junior right-hander Brandon Nickens (1-0) threw a four-hitter and struck out eight for Chatsworth, the defending City Section 4-A Division champion.

Pearlman, a catcher who started at third base last year, was eight for 10 with four doubles, three home runs and 11 runs batted in in four games this week.

In other Westside tournament games:

Rio Mesa 6, Beverly Hills 2--Sam Garcia went two for four and drove in two runs and Jon McMullen hit a home run for host Rio Mesa (3-0).

Notre Dame 5, Taft 4--Cesar Martinez’s single scored Francisco Dongo from second base in the seventh inning for host Notre Dame (3-0).

Channel Islands 10, Loyola 3--Jacob Cruz was three for three and drove in two runs for host Channel Islands (3-0). Ray Rangel (1-0) pitched a six-hitter.

Sylmar 9, Saugus 4--Rene Navarro had a home run and a double for visiting Sylmar (2-2). Steve Sanchez (1-0) pitched a complete game.

Hueneme 3, Hamilton 2--Jim Pettit drove in Jose Reyes with the winning run in the fifth inning at Hueneme. Chris Gonzales, Carl Whitnall (1-0) and Jess Olivares combined on a three-hitter for Hueneme (2-1).

Montclair Prep 6, Marshall 2--Andy Shaw’s two-run single broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth and Brad Fullmer followed with a three-run home run for Montclair Prep.

Thousand Oaks 2-10, Lompoc 5-1--Tony Siegel and Chris Loll combined on four-hitter for host Thousand Oaks (2-1) in the second game of a nonleague doubleheader. Brett Herman was two for three with two RBIs and Kirk Pederson had two hits for Thousand Oaks.

Westlake 7, Burroughs 2--Rob Neal and Todd Preston each went three for four to lead Westlake (2-2) in an El Segundo tournament game at Burroughs (1-3).

Edison 8, Hart 7--Doug Distaso, John Aguilar and Aaron Miyata each had two hits for the Indians (2-2), who blew a 7-3 lead in an El Segundo tournament game.

Gahr 6, Simi Valley 5--Simi Valley (3-1) committed four errors that led to five unearned runs in an El Segundo tournament semifinal. Simi Valley’s Steve Bernstein and Brian Vasey each had three hits.

Millikan 11, Crespi 1--Brodie Van Wagenen tripled and scored on Kyle Carden’s sacrifice fly for visiting Crespi (2-2) in an El Segundo tournament game.

Fillmore 9-8, Serrano 1-3--Fillmore’s Pokey Sanchez had three hits and three RBIs in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader.

Oak Park 7, St. Monica 5--Oak Park’s Jason Kane hit a home run and Jeff Gibbons struck out 10 in a Highland Hall tournament game.

Fullerton 11, Crescenta Valley 6--Ernie Diaz hit two home runs for Crescenta Valley (2-2) in a Glendora tournament game.
