School: Saddleback High Sport: Softball Position: Pitcher Class: Junior

Even for high school softball, where no-hitters aren’t exactly rare, Abrego’s performance last week was exceptional. Abrego, the two-time Sea View League player of the year, pitched two consecutive perfect games and after her second Saturday--a 4-0 victory over Edison--she finished the second game of the doubleheader by pitching three innings of perfect relief, striking out eight of nine batters. Abrego, who is one of two starters returning from the team that lost to eventual champion El Toro in the semifinals of the Division 3-A playoffs last season, struck out 34 of the 45 batters she retired in the three games. She had 49 strikeouts in 23 innings and batted .333. “I think she (has) come in with a different attitude,” Saddleback Coach Yvonne Alonzo said. “She’s trying to get recognition from some colleges. I think she’s bearing down a little bit more this year.”

Other top performers:

Olivia DiCamilli, who scored 35 points in Costa Mesa’s 70-62 loss to Santee Santana in a Southern California Regional Division III first-round playoff game.

Nicole Erickson, who averaged 15.3 points in Brea-Olinda’s three Southern California Regional Division II playoff victories.
