COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Fielder’s Choice Helps CLU in Sweep of Biola

Brandon Harris scored on a fielder’s choice in the 13th inning to lift visiting Cal Lutheran to a 5-4 victory over Biola and start the Kingsmen on their way to an NAIA District 3 doubleheader sweep at Biola.

Harris reached base on a walk and went to third on a single by Pete Washington.

Mike Rodney, the fourth CLU pitcher, picked up the win in relief, striking out seven and allowing no runs in six innings.

CLU (10-5, 4-2 in district play) won the second game, 5-2.

In other baseball games:

Canyons 5, Santa Barbara City 2--Roland De La Maza pitched his fourth consecutive complete game for host Canyons in a Western State Conference game, striking out seven.

Bobby Corrales and Scott Roth each had two-run home runs for Canyons (10-10-1, 7-1), which has won 10 of its past 12 games after an 0-8-1 start.

Pierce 15, Bakersfield 2--Pat Huston drove in five runs, scored four, had two doubles and hit a three-run home run for visiting Pierce in a WSC game.

Jim Wolf also had four hits and drove in three runs for Pierce.

East L.A. 5, Mission 0--Larry Fry’s two-run double with two out was the key hit in the Huskies’ four-run, second-inning outburst against the Free Spirit.

Oxnard 1, L.A. Valley 0--Steve Hernandez’s sacrifice fly in the second inning scored Pat Avila, and Tim Salado and Juan Hernandez made that stand up by combining for a shutout in the host Condors’ WSC win.

Salado (5-1) pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up only four hits for Oxnard (15-10, 6-1).

Glendale 9, Cuesta 6--Jose Robles hit a two-out three-run home run in the ninth to break a tie and lift the Vaqueros (11-9, 3-4) to a WSC victory over Cuesta (4-3 in conference play) at Glendale.

The Master’s 4-5, Whitworth (Wash.) 3-4--Dan O’Sullivan’s pinch-hit, two-run homer in the sixth lifted host Master’s in the first game of a nonconference doubleheader. Craig Johnson drove in three runs and Chad Hankinson had two RBIs in the second game for Master’s.
