Area Players to Take Part in Basketball Showcase Event

Numerous high school and junior college basketball players from the region have been invited to compete in an all-star tournament that will showcase players seeking college scholarships.

The tournament will run April 5-7 at Fullerton College. High school seniors can sign letters of intent April 10.

The tournament will feature 18 high school teams and four junior college teams from across the nation. Teams have been invited from Kentucky, Oregon, Utah, Washington and from around the state, according to tournament director David Pump.

A team representing the San Fernando Valley and coached by Rob Webb, an assistant at Glendale College, also is entered in the tournament. The team includes Stephane Brown of Channel Islands High, Will Burr of Alemany, Brock Chase of Antelope Valley, Kenny Collins and Kayheed Murray of Cleveland, Bobby DaCorsi of Notre Dame, Rasaan Hall of Crespi, Kenny Lee of Van Nuys, Chris Loll of Thousand Oaks, Sean Martin of Agoura, and Jermaine Nixon of Canyon.

Also playing on teams representing Los Angeles are Jerry Allen of Granada Hills, Eric Jackson of North Hollywood, Telly Roberts of Oakwood and Eric Dafney and Adrian Sellers of Taft.

Allen was The Times’ player of the year in the San Fernando Valley and Loll was player of the year for Ventura County.

Invited to play from the junior college ranks are Rick Garrick and Tory Stephens of Valley College, Chris Cooke of Glendale, and DiJon Barnard, Lester Neal and Uba Satterfield of Ventura.
