Anaheim’s New Sycamore Park Opening Today

Share

City officials and residents today will officially open the city’s newest park, which will offer a variety of recreational choices to Anaheim Hills residents.

The 8-acre Sycamore Park at Dream Street and Monte Vista Road will offer hiking and riding trails, a softball field and basketball and volleyball courts. It will also feature playground equipment for children, picnic and barbecue facilities, shaded shelters and restrooms.

The park, near the sprawling Sycamore Canyon development, has been under construction since April, 1990, by the project developer. The $1.1-million park was part of the development agreement and partly financed by state funds. After completion, the park will be turned over to the city for care and upkeep.

Rotary International donated 172 evergreen trees for the park as part of its “Preserve Planet Earth” program. The group will be honored today for that $12,000 gift.

The Rotary program is a three-year plan to plant trees worldwide in hopes of beautifying areas and encouraging environmental service. The group has asked each member to plant a tree this year, which would result in 1.1 million new trees around the world. To date, Rotary has planted 32 million trees for the program.

The 11 a.m. dedication will be public.
