Claremont : Antenna Permit Revoked

Share

After more than three hours of debate and discussion, the City Council voted last week to revoke a special-use permit for a 62-foot amateur radio antenna.

Brian Warshaw was granted the permit in November for his Dana Court home, but neighbors immediately complained that the antenna would damage property values in the Rosemount Avenue neighborhood. The planning commission had denied the initial objection in February.

But neighbor Joyce Sauter appealed to the council, which agreed that Warshaw’s antenna--which could be retracted to 25 feet when not in use--was not compatible with the neighborhood.

Only Councilman Bill McCready voted to uphold the original permit, arguing that the Federal Communications Commission calls on local governments to take reasonable measures to support amateur radio operators.
