Share

Doug Maggiora, a senior right-hander from Saugus High, threw his first no-hitter and stretched his winning streak to 17 games in a 2-0 victory over visiting Quartz Hill in a Golden League game Monday.

Maggiora threw the first no-hitter by a Saugus player since Roger Salkeld, now in the Seattle Mariner organization, tossed one in 1989.

Maggiora, who throws side-arm, did not allow a runner past first base, struck out four and walked one. Maggiora (6-0) won his final 11 decisions last season.
