BASEBALL REPORT : DAILY UPDATE : AROUND THE MAJORS : Mitchell Suspended, Will Appeal
Kevin Mitchell of the San Francisco Giants will appeal the two-game suspension he was given Monday by National League President Bill White for his role in a brawl April 10 at San Diego.
Mitchell was suspended for two games and fined $1,000 for charging the mound last Wednesday after being hit with a pitch by Padre pitcher Bruce Hurst.
“I feel I was right,” Mitchell said before the opening game of a three-game series between the Giants and the Dodgers. “Besides, this was my first time doing something like that. . . . I’m going to appeal.”
The suspension was scheduled to begin Tuesday but will delayed until after a hearing.
