Lynwood : City Manager Resigns for Planning Job in Honduras
Lynwood City Manager Charles Gomez has resigned to accept a position as an urban planner in Central America. Gomez, 61, who was city manager for 11 years, will advise 14 cities in southern Honduras on development and planning.
The City Council Tuesday appointed Assistant City Manager Michael T. Heriot as interim city manager. Officials are expected to name Heriot as permanent city manager at the next council meeting May 7.
Gomez’s resignation was effective Monday. The council unanimously agreed to fill the vacancy from within the city staff, eliminating the cost of advertising and interviewing, Mayor Robert Henning said.
Heriot, 38, has worked in Lynwood since March, 1989. He was hired as director of human resources and was appointed assistant city manager in July, 1990. Before that, Heriot was special assistant to the Compton city manager.
He has a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Cal State San Bernardino.
