Ian Woosnam, who won the Masters on Sunday, shot a 10-over-par 82 in the first round of the Benson and Hedges International Open on Thursday.

“I’m just exhausted. I put so much into last week, I just couldn’t concentrate today. I’m shattered,” the Welshman said.

Woosnam is 12 shots behind the leaders, two-time Masters champion Nick Faldo of England and Philip Walton of Ireland.

“I should have rested instead of playing in the pro-am yesterday and really I shouldn’t have come to this tournament at all,” said Woosnam, runner-up here last year.

Other players were not surprised by his score. “After a win like that, you can’t concentrate because of what is going on,” Faldo said. “Also, this is a very tough course and he has jet leg.”

Said Jose Maria Olazabal of Spain, who lost to Woosnam at Augusta when he bogeyed the final hole: “If I had won at Augusta I’d have shot in the 100s today.” Olazabal shot a 72 Thursday.
