Boy, 9, Killed by Car; Driver Later Arrested
A 9-year-old boy was struck and killed in Mission Hills by a hit-and-run vehicle, but the driver and a passenger were arrested when they returned to the site of the crash, Los Angeles police said Friday.
Jaskaran Singh, 9, of Mission Hills was killed about 3:40 p.m. Thursday as he crossed Devonshire Street in a marked crosswalk at Woodman Avenue, Officer Bill Mulvihill said.
Witnesses told police that the car that struck Singh was traveling about 70 m.p.h. Witnesses said six to eight people were in the car, but only two returned to the crash scene, Mulvihill said.
The 17-year-old driver was being held at Sylmar Juvenile Hall on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, Mulvihill said. A 16-year-old passenger was also detained, he said.
