Today’s News, Tomorrow’s Television : Family Channel makes a fall animation series from the King Arthur legend

This fall, the Family Channel will premiere its 26-episode animated series “The Legend of King Arthur,” featuring the voices of Robby Benson, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and Tim Curry.

Also: Family Channel’s original series, “The Adventures of the Black Stallion,” “Big Brother Jake,” “Maniac Mansion,” “Rin Tin Tin K-9 Cop” and “Zorro,” have been renewed for the fall.

Showtime has ordered 13 additional episodes of its wacky comedy series “Super Dave,” in its fourth season on the cable network. “Super Dave” stars Emmy-winning writer/producer Bob Einstein as the world-famous daredevil Super Dave Osborne. The fifth-season episodes will begin production this June in Toronto.

”...Talking with David Frost” on PBS has been extended beyond its six-show commitment. The current season will conclude in June and a new season of 12 original interviews will begin in September.

“Futures with Jaime Escalante,” PBS’ school television series, has won the George Foster Peabody Award for distinguished broadcasting service. The series also received a CINE Golden Eagle Award, a Crystal Award and a special award from the California Society for Professional Engineers.

Former model Shari Headley, who played Eddie Murphy’s love interest in the 1988 film “Coming to America,” has joined the cast of ABC’s daytime series “All My Children “ in the new role of Mimi Reed, a young, attractive detective.

The Discovery Channel will examine one of the casualties of the recent war--the Persian Gulf itself--in the first episode of its five-part miniseries “The State of the Natural World,” premiering June 24 at 7 p.m.

Oscar-nominated Pat Morita (“The Karate Kid”) is the host of “Komedy ‘U’ All Stars,” a two-hour television special featuring popular comics. The special was filmed earlier this month at Walt Disney World’s Pleasure Island in Orlando, Florida, for airing on syndication this fall.

Blake Clark, Charles “Roger Rabbit” Fleischer and Dennis Wolfberg are among the comics featured.
