Fred Levy, 89, Dies in Palm Springs; Purchased Rams in 1941 With Reeves
Fred Levy Jr., one of the owners of the Rams when they moved from Cleveland to Los Angeles in 1946, died of natural causes at his Palm Springs home, his son-in-law said Monday. Levy was 89.
Levy died Sunday morning, his son-in-law, Jeff Taylor, said by telephone from his residence in Clarendon, Vt.
Levy and Dan Reeves bought the Rams in 1941, and Levy owned part of the team, with comedian Bob Hope another of the owners, until Reeves bought out his partners in 1962.
At one time, Levy also owned Riverside International Raceway, now shut down and subdivided for real estate purposes.
Levy was born in Louisville, Ky., and his family owned the Levy Bros. department store chain in Kentucky.
Taylor said the family plans a memorial service Saturday in Beverly Hills, where Levy also maintained a home.
