ROUNDUP : Jones Drives In Four, Strikes Out Eight as Kennedy Beats Bolsa Grande

Scott Jones pitched a two-hitter as Kennedy defeated Bolsa Grande, 6-1, in a Garden Grove League baseball game Friday at Kennedy.

Jones (4-3) struck out eight and walked six, but the run he allowed was unearned. Jones also had a strong day at the plate with two hits and drove in four runs. He had a two-run home run in the third.

Kennedy is 12-10, 4-6 in league, and Bolsa Grande is 4-15, 2-8.

In other Garden Grove League games:

Santiago 7, Pacifica 1--Mike Kessell (7-1) pitched a seven-hitter with no walks for host and first-place Santiago (16-6, 9-1). Enele Scanlan had a three-run home run in the second and Kessell had a two-run single in the first inning.

La Quinta 6, Rancho Alamitos 5--La Quinta catcher Ken Granger threw out the potential tying run at third base to end the game. Brett Osborn (7-2) pitched the final four innings to earn the victory for host La Quinta (18-5, 8-2).

In the Empire League:

Los Alamitos 16, El Dorado 8--Tyler Cashman had two home runs and five RBIs for visiting Los Alamitos (17-4). Chuck Bamshaw had two hits, including a double and an RBI, for Los Alamitos. Gar Vallone had three hits, including a double and an RBI, for El Dorado (16-5, 9-2).

Katella 3, Cypress 0--Chris Reed (6-2) pitched a two-hitter and struck out six for host Katella (14-7, 9-2), which is tied with El Dorado and Esperanza for first place.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 7, Fullerton 5--Chris Looney (6-2) pitched six innings for the victory and Rick Orr pitched the seventh for his first save for host Sunny Hills (15-6, 10-1).

Steve Ashton had two doubles and two RBIs, Looney had two hits and two RBIs, and Rick Orr had two hits and scored two runs for Sunny Hills.

Troy 7, Buena Park 1--Troy scored three runs in the top of first inning as Brent Coon scored on Ryan Russell’s double down the left-field line, Steve Friedrich scored on Guy Pinelli’s sacrifice fly and Russell scored on Greg Windle’s single.

Pinelli (6-2), who also hit a two-run single in the fifth inning, pitched a five-hitter, struck out eight and walked two for Troy. Brandon Avey hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning.

La Habra 7, Sonora 2--Scott Veeder (7-2) pitched a five-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks. Mark Patterson and Mark Picco had two hits. Mike Mooney had a hit and two RBIs for La Habra (10-5, 8-3).

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 21, Brethren 7--Matt Hendrens had four hits, scored four runs and had four RBIs and Jeff Courvoisier had three hits, including a three-run home run in the first and had five RBIs for visiting Orange Lutheran (11-7, 6-4).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 17, Trabuco Hills 5--Laguna Beach scored five in the second inning and scored seven in the fourth at Trabuco Hills. Mike Allen had three hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs, Jason Levinson had three hits and four RBIs and Sean Sauers had three hits and four RBIs for Laguna Beach (6-12, 5-6).

Century 6, Costa Mesa 3--Tom Reimers (4-3) pitched a four-hitter and struck out eight and also had three hits and three RBIs for host Century (5-13, 4-7). Mark Garcia had two hits, including a triple, and had one RBI and his brother Nick Garcia had two hits and one RBI for Century.

In the Sea View League:

University 2, Woodbridge 1--University scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning. Steve Higgins’ two-out infield single scored Andy Fuller for the winning run for University (7-15, 4-7).

Saddleback 9, Newport Harbor 1--Tommy Smith had two hits, including a home run in the first inning, and had three RBIs, Monsser Rezkalah had two hits, including a home run in the fifth inning, and had two RBIs and Ralph Lopez (4-2) pitched a four-hitter for visiting Saddleback (10-9-1, 5-5-1).

Tustin 7, Corona del Mar 2--Ben Strack had two hits, scored and had one RBI for visiting Tustin (14-6, 9-2), which scored five runs on four hits and a walk in the first inning. Ben Munoz had a home run in the second inning.

In the Academy League:

Liberty Christian 8, California Lutheran 7--Liberty Christian (11-6, 3-2) rallied from a 6-0 deficit to win at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa. Wade Gillian had a bases-loaded double in the fifth to score three runs to give Liberty Christian an 8-6 lead in the fifth.
