RUINING THE FUN

In his review of Vincent Bugliosi’s excellent book, “And the Sea Will Tell” (Feb. 17), Dan Byrne says, “The final pages are some of the most suspenseful in trial literature.” No doubt this is true, but only for those lucky enough not to have read his review; in the first paragraph of the review, he reveals the outcome of the trial!

I was nearly finished reading “And the Sea Will Tell” and was indeed caught up in Bugliosi’s masterful and suspenseful account of the trial when I noticed, and unfortunately read, Byrne’s review.

My plea to book critics: Please, when reviewing books where the outcome is in question until the very end, don’t ruin the fun for the reader who might unsuspectingly read your review before reading the book.
