The Glory That Was ‘Spartacus’
Broeske errs in saying that Alex North won an Oscar for his “Spartacus” score. The 1960 best score award went to Ernest Gold for “Exodus.”
The highly esteemed North has never won for any of his superb scores, a situation somewhat addressed by the motion picture academy a couple of years ago with an honorary award. However, it might well consider nominating North again--as the composer of the best reissued score of 1991.
