COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Torrid DeTolve Takes Glendale to Playoffs

Glendale College beat visiting Bakersfield, 6-4, Saturday in a Western Conference finale to earn a berth in the WSC’s Shaughnessy playoffs, and freshman right-hander Rock DeTolve recorded his eighth consecutive conference victory.

Glendale (20-16, 12-8 in conference play), which recovered from an 0-4 start to tie for fourth, will play host to Oxnard on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

In Glendale’s three-run seventh, Mike Regan doubled in a run, John McCoy singled in a run and Jim Aiwasian drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Valley 4, Moorpark 3 (12 innings)--Tim Weir hit run-scoring triples in the 11th and 12th innings to bring Valley back from a 3-2 deficit in a WSC game at home.

With none out in the 11th, Weir knocked in Joe Ishikawa, who had doubled, to tie the score, 3-3. An inning later Rob Kostenbader scored the winning run when Weir lined a shot down the right-field line.

Arnie Aguinaga (3-4) picked up the win in relief of Kostenbader for Valley (8-25-1, 5-15).

Oxnard 5, Santa Barbara 0--Oxnard pitcher Joe Canfield (8-6) allowed just two singles in going the distance for the Condors in a WSC game at home.

Canfield struck out three and walked one. No Santa Barbara runner advanced past first base.

Tim Johnson and Chris Gaston each went three for three for Oxnard (20-18, 12-8). Gaston had two RBIs.

The Master’s 10-0, UC San Diego 4-4--Sheldon Sparks had three hits in the opener to lead Master’s (21-16) in a nonconference doubleheader at home.

Cal Lutheran 9-15, La Verne 7-4--Blake Babki hit three home runs for the day and drove in the winning run in the opener to lead Cal Lutheran (28-7) to a nonconference sweep at home.

Babki was five for eight, drove in five runs and scored five runs. He has nine home runs.
