Oldies Reviewer Needs New Attitude

Share

I attended the “Magnificent 7” oldies concert at the Pacific Amphitheatre, and contrary to critic Jim Washburn’s review (Calendar, April 22), it was a great show. Thanks to the spirited effort of most performers, we were able to have fun and relive some good memories of the ‘60s.

Washburn needs to lighten up and realize none of us are the same as we were 25 years ago, and not everyone should be a clone. Little Anthony’s Vegas-style set and Ronnie Spector’s sexy dress and dancing added a welcome degree of variety to the show.

Apparently, Washburn wasn’t listening very carefully, because most people felt Ben E. King’s performance was average at best, not the highlight of the concert. Lesley Gore, Freddy Cannon, Brenton Wood, Spector and Little Anthony showed more feeling and emotion.

Finally, Washburn can take it straight from the one who kissed Ronnie Spector during her performance of “Be My Baby.” She hasn’t lost anything.
