PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Huntington Beach Gets a Run in Seventh to Beat Westminster
Huntington Beach scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Westminster, 3-2, in a Sunset League softball game Friday at Huntington Beach.
Renee Sanchez hit a one-out triple and scored on Laura Minard’s ground ball to short for Huntington Beach (12-10, 8-2 in league).
Stephanie Noffsinger (8-7) pitched a three-hitter and did not allow an earned run, striking out eight for first-place Huntington Beach. She also had three hits.
In the South Coast League:
El Toro 6, Capistrano Valley 4--Tricia Bulkeley had two hits and three RBIs and Sammy Smithson had a single, stole a base and scored two runs as host El Toro (16-12, 6-2) took over second place. Misty Lauby (14-7) pitched a complete game for the victory. Capistrano Valley is 10-7, 5-3.
In the Olympic League:
Whittier Christian 6, Brethren 1--Tiffany Kind (2-6) pitched a five-hitter for visiting Whittier Christian (8-7, 8-4). Shelly Thums had three hits, scored two runs and stole three bases and Shannon Hart had two hits and two runs batted in.
