Cincinnati Red reliever Rob Dibble was suspended by National League president Bill White for the second time this season, getting a four-game ban for throwing a baseball into the stands last Sunday and injuring a fan.

Last month, Dibble was given a three-game suspension and fined $1,000 for throwing a pitch behind the back of Houston’s Eric Yelding, which set off a brawl. He appealed both suspensions, meaning he can continue to pitch until hearings are held. The first hearing is set for June 17.

Kevin Mitchell’s suspension was reduced from two games to one game by the White after he heard an appeal by the San Francisco Giant outfielder. He missed Friday night’s game against the New York Mets but is eligible to return today. . . . The Pittsburgh Pirates, who have used five first basemen this season, traded first baseman-outfielder Carmelo Martinez to the Kansas City Royals for minor league pitcher Victor Cole.
