Richman Romps in Illinois Derby

CHICAGO —
Richman, winner of the Louisiana Derby and several other stakes, rolled to a 6 1/2-length victory Saturday in the 34th running of the $532,000 Illinois Derby at Sportsman’s Park.
With Jerry Bailey riding, Richman wrested the lead from Media Plan after half a mile of the 1 1/8-mile race, and went on to open a 10-length lead in the stretch and win by 6 1/2 lengths. The winner paid $5.60 to win.
Doc of the Day finished second, and Nowork All Play ran third.
