Sockers to Be Aired on Cable TV
San Diego Cable Sports Network will carry Games 3, 4 and 5 of the MSL championship series between the Sockers and the Cleveland Crunch live on television, president Robert McRann announced Tuesday night.
“The success of the San Diego Sockers is unparalleled to any of this city’s pro sports franchises,” said McRann, who called the telecasts “a tribute to the team and a public service to (its) fans.”
The telecasts, at 5 p.m. Friday, 3:30 p.m. Sunday and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, might appease Socker owner Ron Newman, who last week said the lack of TV exposure for his team was “a disgrace.”
The free telecasts will be shown on Cox Cable (Ch. 24), Southwestern (Ch. 15), Dimension (Ch. 27), Jones Intercable (Ch. 25) and American of Coronado (Ch. 6A).
Elsewhere, After two days of therapy for a hamstring injury, Socker midfielder Branko Segota’s playing status is questionable for Friday’s Game 3.
Segota missed practice Tuesday, as did Rod Castro (foot bruise). Bill Taylor, Socker trainer, Taylor said there’s a 70% chance Castro will play Friday.
The best-of-seven series is tied at a game apiece.
