Fans at Yankee Stadium serenaded Luis Polonia with chants of “Jail-bait.” That was a reference to his 1989 conviction for having sex with an underage girl in Milwaukee.

Polonia, a former Yankee who went one for four and is batting .344, said it didn’t bother him.

“I was so relaxed, I hit the ball so good, that fired me up,” he said. “They keep me going. The New York fans, they stink, anyway.”

Last weekend, a fan was ejected from Yankee Stadium after a confrontation with Jose Canseco of the Oakland Athletics over Canseco’s late-night rendezvous with Madonna. Fans booed Canseco’s every move the rest of the series.

A report on Scott Bailes’ ejection Tuesday for hitting Randy Velarde with a pitch will be filed with the American League office. However, AL spokeswoman Phyllis Merhige said it’s up to the discretion of league President Bobby Brown whether Bailes will also be fined. . . . Luis Sojo’s third-inning double was his first extra-base hit since a double on April 13 at Minnesota. . . . The Angels signed former Dodger catcher Alex Trevino to a Midland double-A contract. Trevino, 33, was released by the St. Louis Cardinals during spring training.
