SOUTHERN SECTION SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS : Alemany Pair Stifle Mira Costa, 6-0

Stacey Hart and Lisa Asahara combined on a one-hitter to help Alemany High defeat Mira Costa, 6-0, Friday in a first-round Southern Section 3-A Division softball playoff game.

Alemany, the Mission League champion, improved to 18-3. Mira Costa, the Ocean League’s third-place team, finished 9-14.

Hart (11-3), a junior right-hander, allowed one hit, struck out seven and walked one before Asahara relieved her in the sixth.

Alemany scored two runs in the first inning, added three in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Krista Gomez and Patti Seresi each homered for the Indians, who had nine hits.

Gomez, who has hit 16 home runs in three years, went two for three and Seresi was two for four with two runs batted in.

In other first-round 3-A games:

Santa Fe Springs 1, Saugus 0--Host Santa Fe Springs improved to 24-2 as Saugus (14-10) managed just one hit.

South Hills 2, Canyon 0--Canyon ended its season 13-9 after falling at South Hills.

Marianne Winchester took the loss for Canyon.

SMALL SCHOOLS

Oakwood 5, Big Pine 3--Erin Farrell went three for three with a solo home run and drove in two runs and Tracy Stern (15-3) struck out nine for Oakwood (16-3) in a Small Schools game at Oakwood.

Campbell Hall 15, Valley Christian (Santa Maria) 4--Sophomore right-hander Kasey Cannon tossed a five-hitter and struck out eight to lead Campbell Hall (13-6) to victory. Cannon (12-6) also had a two-run double.

Allison King had three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored for Campbell Hall, and Joanna Paul added a triple, two singles and two RBIs.

Campbell Hall will meets the winner of the Templeton-L.A. Lutheran game in Wednesday’s second round.
