East Ventura County students will participate this week in a math-science Olympiad and a science celebration.

Sixth-grade students in the Conejo Valley Unified School District will display their science projects at a science celebration planned tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Manzanita Elementary School, 2626 Michael Drive in Newbury Park. Students from about a dozen local schools will show their science experiments.

“We had a lot of clever ones last year, not just your typical science projects,” said fifth-grade teacher Arnie Widofsky, coordinator of the event.

“We want to create enthusiasm for math and science and make the connection to the real world,” said Ellen Lee, coordinator in curriculum and instruction for the district. “Our goal is to open up doors for students.”
